At first, for me, it was all about the cheapest gear that would still keep me warm but eventually i got tired of wearing the same old brown pants and brown jacket and wanted to get some style going. 'Don't worry if you suck at snowboarding, as long as your wearing the latest fashionable gear on the mountain you will look like a pro' i was told once when i wanted to purchase a pair of fluro yellow pants and a matching blue jacket which had some awesome appeal about it.
Today most experienced riders will own at the very least there own pants and jacket and with so many designs out there at the moment its just a matter of finding the right combination of colour and style. In an earlier post i made called Wishlist 2009 i had a few of my favorite combination's mainly bright colours because that's what i like. But whats the best brand to go with? And wheres the best place to buy this gear in Aus? Well from experience there's not a lot of shops out of the snow that supply all the American brands but Ive managed to find a few which ill happily share with you.
Just mentioning again, i unfortunately don't live in the snow, no no i live in Sydney (North Area) so i have to set aside a fair amount of time each year to fulfill my craving of snowboarding.
Ill start with my favourite (Stores, not online)
ALP Sport (West Ryde)

When i first discovered this store i couldn't believe i hadn't heard of it sooner, awesome range of gear and wonderful knowledge from staff.
Staff would have to be the best Ive ever encountered at any retail store, so helpful and so friendly & knowledgeable which is what makes shopping there so much better.
If your from Sydney, or just passing through defiantly check it out, i recommend it to everyone into snowboarding, skiing or hiking.
Cheers guys.
ESS Parramatta

I used to hire my gear from here all the time and pick it up at one of there other stores located at Jindabyne. I got referred to this store by a friend and was expecting better then what was on show but having said that the store still has a good range of gear and is usually pretty flexable with there snowboard hire rates.
Balmoral Boards

Good location and a good sized store which a nice range of different brands. Ive been here a few times and most of the staff seem interested in your visit! The website is also good for a browse. There is usually some big sales on here at the right time of year.
One mind Track

I found this one awhile back and once again was impressed with the range of stock. Big sized shop and plenty of decent looking gear. located in Crows nest, fairly close to the City. Staff were ok, had a slight mix up on my last visit but nothing to complain about.
Theres a lot more smaller stores out there but the above 4 are worth a look if your after some stylish gear.

great post.
ReplyDeletewhat a good break down for the newbie needing some gear.
it does seem weird that there isn't better stuff available, considering australia is still popular for their snow.
i know, maybe one day there will be :P
